Terahertz waves (THz) are electromagnetic waves corresponding to wavelenght in the sub-millimeter wavelength range between tens of microns and tens of millimeters, so called far infrared spectral domain. Frequencies lies between 0,1THz and 10 THz corresponding to molecular vibration modes between 0,3 et 333 cm-1.
Terahertz light has remarquable property, like moderate attenuation of terahertz waves while propagating through non polar materials like paper, wood, glass, plastic or ceramic.
Limitations of this light is metal reflection and water absorption in air and in biological tissue.
